PeopleMovin: Migration Flows Across the World
We used this site a couple of months ago. It can be useful to identify total populations, percentage of immigrants compared to the total population, and migration corridors. Keep in mind the difference in definition between emigrant and immigrant.
WorldShapin: Compare Countries through Their Shape
From the same fantastic folks that created PeopleMovin. This will be useful in determining population, life expectancy, GDP Per Capita (remember this definition from class?), and workplace equality. Be sure to use the slider at the bottom of the screen to see the changes in these statistics over time. Seriously. Time machine. Right there. And you know how much I like time travel.
Cloud Globe
This is for fun once you've finished your assignment. A Google Chrome Experiment (so be sure you're using that browser), this nifty little site lets you see two years worth of storm data overlaid on a rotating globe. Play with the vegetation and storm buttons. It's pretty much amazing.
Your assignments will be due at the end of our lab time on Wednesday. Your research can be handwritten or in Google Docs. If you complete it online, be sure to share your doc with Mr. Alpert in order to receive a grade!
