A Video to Make You Smile on a Monday...Oh yeah, and Your Adjective Spelling List - Week of March 11th

This week we'll take a short break from spelling words containing a common Greek or Latin root. As we're studying adjectives, below is a list of interesting adjectives. You will take a test over both spelling and meaning on Friday.

1. famous – having a well-known reputation

Michael Jordan is one of the most famous basketball players.

2. infamous – having a well-known reputation for something negative or bad

The infamous bank robber always evaded the police.

3. sweltering – excessively hot

The sweltering desert was my least favorite part of our adventure.

4. tremendous – very great in amount, size, or intensity

The orchestra gave a tremendous performance.

5. gullible – easily cheated

The gullible student bought an elevator ticket to the third floor.

6. verbose – very wordy or talkative

Mr. Alpert gave a verbose talk about adjectives.

7. fetid – foul or stinky

The hero had to brave the fetid swamp in order to save the day.

8. hasty – quick or fast

He made a hasty comment, without thinking, that he later regretted.

9. cowardly – easily scared

The cowardly lion never wanted to try anything new.

10. ghastly – terrible or horrifying

The witch’s ghastly appearance sent a chill up my spine.
